Our History

Kinnaird Radio Limited (KRL) came on air in Fraserburgh in January of 1997 as a Community Radio Station operating under the licence of Moray Firth Radio enabling (MFR) to extend their broadcasting area to the eastern extremity of their geographical listening area also allowing the local community of Fraserburgh to obtain the benefits of local community broadcasting offered by KRL as part of the wider broadcasting provision of MFR across North Scotland.

Initially KRL began broadcasting at the top of the tower of the Dalrymple Hall in Broad Street, Fraserburgh but moved a few years ago to their present premises located on the first floor of the old Thomas Walker Hospital, Charlotte Street, Fraserburgh. The station in all respects is run by volunteers who also present the wide range of programming as part of the KRL community broadcasting ethos.

Our Ethos

Kinnaird Radio (KRL) offers a local community broadcasting service enabling local issues affecting the community in our local geographical broadcasting area to be highlighted and addressed. KRL also offers an excellent entertainment medium in support in developing the voice of our local community. As part of the Moray Firth Network of Community radio Stations KRL is committed to developing the joint interests of MFR and Community Radio in North East Scotland.

In addition to providing Fraserburgh with a local community broadcasting medium all involved in the management of KRL including programme presenters operate on the principle of enjoying themselves while presenting a wide variety of programming for the listening public.

Our Future

In a new digital age where the internet is changing the way we listen and use music, radio is also changing. Many more local radio stations have been "networked" to save money in the evenings, killing the true local element that local radio should be.
As a community radio station, we're always looking for your support and we're devoted to covering many local events, by filming them in High Definition and giving as much coverage of the local community as possible.

We hope you enjoy the newly refreshed website for 2012 and we'll see you soon - thanks for your support!
